With the weather finally becoming nice in the evening, we can enjoy the coastal sunsets without sweating after 5 minutes outside. And what better way to enjoy the great weather than a beach picnic! Picnics are a fun way to get everyone out of the house to enjoy family time or celebrate life with your closest friends. When we had our meal this weekend, we decided to take a few recipes from the Square Table Cookbook. This great cookbook from Oxford has killer recipes, and we all decided it that it’s one of the greatest cookbooks we’ve ever used. Not only was it filled with everything from drinks to final course; it also had a plenty of stories and facts. Having a picnic was a perfect way to get out of the house and enjoy each other’s company for the evening!
We decided to mix and match our dinnerware, and loved the beautiful but simple setting we created. We used pieces from Blenko Glass, Flambeaux, Earthborn Pottery, Annieglass, Biff Bourne, and Michael Satterfield. After finding the blanket at home, we decided we needed a lot of cool colors for our dinnerware to keep a relaxed feel for the evening. All the pieces worked well to fit in the basket, and were packed safely in the blanket for the ride.
For dinner, we decided to make 3 recipes from the cookbook: the old-fashioned lemonade, herbed goat cheese, and mushroom and artichoke penne. It would be hard to tell you what our favorite was, but if we had to pick one, it would be the herbed goat cheese. We probably could have filled ourselves on that! The lemonade was fun too… we loved the splash of cranberry juice in the recipe! Drinking it and watching the sunset was incredibly soothing. The penne pasta was wonderful; it was an easy food to take with us and to eat on a beach. We also added one of our own personal dessert recipes, deconstructed cannoli dip, which was fun for everyone. Because this was a picnic, we made sure that we only needed minimal silverware (forks only) and was not too messy for cleanup. With a meal that easy to put together and clean up, we can’t wait to do it again next week!
