A family tradition since 1970.

Hurricane Camille devastated the Mississippi Gulf Coast in August of 1969, and out of that, in a small living room in Pass Christian, Hillyer House was born in the spring of 1970. Hillyer House began as a family’s desire to contribute to rebuilding the community they loved, after a tragedy that destroyed nearly everything. For the first few years the shop was simply in place to help people replace those necessities they lost like furniture, and other household items. As the popularity of the shop grew, and the ladies love of retail developed, a move to downtown Pass Christian gave Hillyer House its first formal home.

Through the late 70’s and into the 80’s the vision of the shop and its owners went through several phases. By the mid-1980’s it was clear that Hillyer House would always be a home for American artists. At that time, the number of producing artists able to deliver to Pass Christian was nowhere near what it is today. The American Craft gallery concept started out as a small corner of that original shop. In the decades since, the emphasis on buying American-made products and the constantly growing focus on supporting local and regional artists has helped Hillyer House grow into the nationally-recognized and prestigious award winning shop it is today.

While our inventory seems to always be growing, we take great pride in the fact that many of our artists have had work featured in the gallery for over 30 years. Our glass artists showcase oil lamps, bowls, wine glasses, lamps and vases that are hand-blown in radiant colors that will captivate your senses. Creative potters dazzle our store with magnifient glazes in an array of colors, shapes, dimensions and versatility. Each piece reveals the artist’s passion for excellence. Beautiful hand-crafted jewelry is presented by jewelers from coast to coast with designs in recycled guitar strings, casted glass, gemstones, Seaglass, pearls, and wax casted designs inspired by nature.
