Charlton Glass began in 1996, when Sandie Charlton made a key chain out of glass. At the time, she didn’t know the small trinket would guide her and her family into a life of art glass and the founding of a prominent family business. A year later her son, John Moilanen, joined her venture with a shared passion. During her first year in business, Charlton recalls making a platter to sell during the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. Although she only sold one piece, she didn’t get too discouraged and continued traveling to local festivals. The designs and art form did not go unnoticed! In the coming years, John Moilanen followed the demand for Charlton Glassworks and expanded the scope of the business to high-end international trade shows across the country. The marketing efforts and unparalleled designs soon gained world-wide product recognition. To this day, Charlton Glassworks honors the relationships with galleries and collectors across the globe. In addition, they continue to stay rooted within the local community with a presence in a select few regional festivals.
